City woman's musical makes its mark in the Big Apple

IT'S a long way from Downs Barn to New York but Louise Roche's acclaimed musical Girls Night has not only reached the Big Apple but is really calling the tune.

The work made its debut at Wolverton's Madcap Theatre in 2000 and then played across the UK before going Stateside, where the piece is exceeding all expectations – there are currently three touring productions in America.

Described as a cross between Desperate Housewives and Mamma Mia the musical is now playing to packed houses and to critical acclaim off-Broadway.

On Friday the cast was invited to preside over the closing bell at the NASDAQ building in Times Square, and Milton Keynes got a mention.

Louise sat back with a glass of pink champagne and watched the moment live on TV.

"We got a call from the producer of the show telling us to watch CNN," Louise told Citizen First.

"People watch CNN all over the world so everyone knows about Milton Keynes now!”
