Shy Shelley tries to get along with the other checkout girls, Shaz and Tammy, but it’s hard because she’s not like them. They’ve got boyfriends, dress sense and they’re always going out for a laugh. Shelly dresses like a frump and has to take care of her agoraphobic mum, but she has dreams and the courage to follow them.
